The successful candidate will contribute in developing and/or refining breeding decision support tools and performing analyses utilizing genotypic, phenotypic, and environmental data. Occasional domestic and international travel is required.
The Quantitative Geneticist will:
o Develop and/or refine models and tools that utilize phenotypic data, environmental data, and pedigree and molecular marker information to help breeders conduct more efficient breeding decisions.
o Conduct and interpret the results of routine phenotypic, genetic, and marker-trait association analyses including, but not limited to, marker-assisted introgression, QTL mapping, genomewide association studies, and genomic selection.
o Provide statistical support to the breeding and native traits groups as needed.
o Communicate verbally and in writing the results and interpretation of experiments and analyses.
Duties and responsibilities may be revised as needed by the Biostatistics and Marker Applications Manager and/or Director of Plant Breeding Technology either verbally and/or in writing.
o Ph.D. in Plant Breeding, Statistics or related discipline.
o Solid knowledge in quantitative, statistical, and population genetics.
o Experience with design, analysis, and interpretation of field experiments; marker-trait association studies; genomic selection; and marker-assisted selection and introgression is highly desired.
o Demonstrated proficiency in programming in R or other statistical analysis software package.
o Proficiency in any other programming languages (C/C++, PERL, Python, Java, MatLab, etc.) and experience in running genetic simulations and machine learning is a plus.
o Strong ability to translate complex ideas and results into intelligible stories, insight and actionable recommendations
